Dean Evenson's favorite Aunt Mabel Johnson served in the Coast Guard during WWII. At age 104, she was interviewed about her memories during that time of American history. When most people of that generation have long passed, Mabel Johnson is loving and sprightly and still has all her marbles! She is enjoying living in Kansas with her daughter and family. We are grateful for her service and that Dean has those good genes.

"The ones that should have been honored were those men and women who went across so many died for our country." -Mabel Johnson
At one point in her feature, Mabel states, "But then I was thinking of all these soldiers that gave their lives, and I was thinking, well, all I did was sit in an office." How typical of, and yet another reason we rightfully refer to them as The Greatest Generation. Though each man and woman knew their role was important to the war effort and eventual victory, most will always point to someone else who, in their opinion, did more. Someone who truly sacrificed. This is why we honor that generation. And this repeated sentiment provides a lasting example of humility, service, and, preferring others above oneself. These are virtues sorely needed in our world today.
