Drawing on their decades of friendship and award-winning collaborations, Dean Evenson, Scott Huckabay, and Phil Heaven create a tonal journey that is both meditative and uplifting. About the Handpan:
We are pleased to introduce the uniquely resonant instrument called a ‘handpan.’ This instrument is leading the next generation of sound healing and musical soundscapes. Each overtone-emitting instrument can be tuned with multiple notes. The early handpans were inspired by the Caribbean steel drum. They are technically not a drum but an idiophone meaning the entire instrument resonates, not just a membrane like a drum. It is like a convex version of a steel drum with the two halves attached together.
Scott uses several handpans in this recording. The Rav was made in Russia. A European company called PanAmour customized another handpan using Scott’s suggestions of design and tuning frequencies. The third handpan he uses was custom made by Axiom out of Nevada.
