Being Prepared for whatever

Be Prepared

Are you prepared? Devastating floods in Texas, monsoon rains in Bangladesh, fires raging in Pacific Northwest, extreme weather around the globe as climate change becomes an ever-increasing reality in our era. What challenging times we live in. Did you even hear about Bangladesh where thousands of people died recently because of flooding? Did you know about the dozens of fires raging in thousands of acres in the Pacific Northwest? How can one be prepared for such catastrophe? It’s not something one even wants to think about, but when we look at those images of flooded homes and highways in Houston or hear about friends who had to abandon their homes for fear of fire, it becomes clear that we need to consider preparation in a big way.

One of the hopeful things we hear about in times like these is the help one receives from neighbors and even strangers. Do you know your neighbors? Do they know you? Dean Evenson and I have always made it a point to know our neighbors, no matter where we live. It can be very helpful in times when we lose power or when we have a silver thaw like we did last winter with snow melting, then freezing, and hundreds of trees and branches falling everywhere leaving many without power for days or weeks at a time.

What would you do if you lost electrical power? Or access to clean, running water? Or a toilet that flushes? Do you have water poured out and food stored? Of course, none of that would have helped the people in Houston when hurricane waters flooded their homes and they had to be evacuated and leave all behind. If you had to leave your home quickly because of fire, earthquake or flooding, what would you take with you? Do you have a plan of how to connect with your family members?

Are you prepared?
Be prepared. These simple steps can help you to be prepared for whatever might occur that would disrupt your life.

Be prepared. That is the Boy Scout motto and since Dean was an Eagle Scout, he takes that concept seriously. Our local government has put together this comprehensive preparedness guide to help people be prepared for whatever disruptions may occur. It’s well worth the small amount of time it takes to invest in preparing for a disaster of any kind because if or when such an unforeseen event occurs, you will at least have a system in place to help you navigate troubled waters or flaming embers. And remember, knowing your neighbors and building community around you will give you a strong basis to deal with any challenge that may arise. Yes, we are stronger together!

We know stress is a major factor for people who are suffering with loss and displacement and we have been trying to think of what we could give to victims of Hurricane Harvey or other natural disasters. Although many have lost their homes, they may still have their phones so they can easily download an album. Since anti-stress music is what we do, we want to offer a gift of music that might help as people work through these troubled times. Therefore, we are giving away a FREE DOWNLOAD of our album Healing Sanctuary. If you or anyone you know is feeling stressed, please click the link to download your free album.
